Research finds way to draw drinking water from air in world’s most arid regions

Texas study targets hottest, driest areas

May 24, 2022  By Ground Water Canada

Austin, Texas – Researchers at the University of Texas have developed a solution that could help people living in arid countries and regions access clean drinking water by drawing it from the air. A low-cost gel film can pull water from the air to produce between six and 13 litres of water per day in areas with between 15 and 30 per cent relative humidity. The research expands upon previous studies at the university that were conducted in environments of high humidity. The current study is targeting the hottest and driest places on earth and could allow millions of people in such areas to access drinking water with an easy-to-use home device.
